Remembering Our Heroes

By Liza C

We can never count the number of people who have lost their lives in defending our country. Ever since the world discovered the word "war", many lives have been vanished and we were all divided by envy, beliefs and power.

Today, we're just repeating the history. Still, many lives are taken away from their families and many innocent people are being perished to death with no clear reasons at all.

Memorial Day is being celebrated every 11th day of November. Nevertheless, many people who have been into war or who have lost their loved ones during those wars are continuously grieving for their lost and longing.

Thus, remembering our country's heroes, their son or daughter or brother or sister is not just every November 11 but every minute of their lives.

As we continue to live in the digital world, the power of the Internet has opened its door to meet other people that have families who died in war. Comforting and giving each other the will to move on and be strong are now as easy as logging into the Internet. Whether someone comes from the south or the north area, the same feelings, despite of the difference in location can be shared in an instant. And this was made possible with the many "memorial sites" that were created to honor, remember and share the happy and lonesome moments to other people who have lost a family member as well.

The so-called "memorial sites" were being maintained by the family of the deceased or missing military personnel from different parts of the globe. Each has their own virtual walls where they can freely write their feelings, yearning and suffering. More than just posting an endless feeling of hurt, the site has also comforting members that the users can count on at anytime.

Every virtual wall has photos of a deceased service person or missing soldier. In addition to pictures are the names and details of every service individual as well as the message of their loving wife or daughter or son. Every message honors the deceased heroes. The online memorial walls themes vary from place of service of the military and the war they've been engaged with.

Despite of the theme differences, these memorial sites' aims all comes down into one - to give honor and respect to our brave heroes, keeping them alive in the modern and digital world. The world is constantly changing and the way they are remembered and honored has been changed as well. But there's one thing that remains the same until now - war. And we can never change if we will not act now.
